SHAHR-E Kord -- Former president Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani on Thursday dismissed U.S. demonizing of Iran, saying that Washington will 'hit its head against the wall' with its hegemonic policies.

"America now is talking very arrogantly to the world and by creating an 'axis of evil' order is threatening any adverse country with nuclear bombs. It is further pressuring other countries by economic leverages and by accusing them of backing terrorism," he told thousands of local residents in this western city.

"Today, Americans see themselves as an unrivaled power. They are now showing more greed to dominate the world and the White House thinks that it can rule on the whole world whenever it wants," Rafsanjani, who chairs the Expediency Council, said.

"America, however, will have its head hit against the wall. Look at the few selfless and martyrdom-seeking Palestinians who have been standing up against Israel with all its artillery, tanks and advanced arms and have dazed them," he added.

Rafsanjani warned that the U.S. and imperialists were still coveting Iran's oil and trying to find footholds in the country by creating disunity among the masses and deviating the country's youth with the 'vulgar' Western culture.

"Don't think that plots against the Islamic Iran have ended, but you should know that America and the imperialists are still looking at Iran's black gold, its waters and the country as a strategic and vital region with covetous eyes," he said.

"They are now trying to target our unity ... with their radios and media and create gap among the people and clerics," Rafsanjani added.

Washington has propped up its pressures against the Islamic Republic, with George W. Bush branding Iran as part of an "axis of evil" along with Iraq and North Korea, IRNA reported.

Iran has had no diplomatic relations with the U.S. which severed its ties after the 'students following the Imam's line' stormed the American Embassy in Tehran, known as 'den of spies', in 1979 and took its staff hostage for 444 days.
